Building Community with Sugar and Spice
Updated: Jul 14, 2018
Pennyweight Market was created by three friends sharing a passion for local food, their Manitoban roots, and sweet treats! Over dinner (and some wine), we dreamed of creating a throwback to a small town General Store, yet also current and modern. We secretly hoped to convince our kids we could be cool! (not sure this is even possible but heh, why not try?)
Our goals for the store were simple. It had to provide great food and hospitality, and a positive community vibe. We wanted a store that welcomed people, invited folks to linger and showcased local talent.
Our store supports Manitoba growers and artisans, hosts events and art classes, and carries a variety of bulk food items, herbs, spices, chocolates and candies. We have a cafe that serves specialty coffee, tea, ice cream treats, bubble teas and sundaes. We work hard to make sure there is always something new and interesting on our shelves, and we will never...ever... stop trying to be cooler than our kids!
